1. Hamilton (the movie) starts streaming this Friday, just in time for the July Fourth weekend, but I think I’m actually more excited to see this remake of the Princess Bride—a hilariously homespun, quarantine-made production featuring Josh Gad, Tiffany Haddish, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, and even some celebrity pets. First chapter drops this Monday. 2. Finally, an air conditioner that puts aesthetics on equal par with functionality. 3. There are a lot of reasons to love New York right now. Top of my list: we now have the nation’s lowest Covid spread rate—go team! Also up there: Milton Glaser, who passed away over the weekend. Glaser designed the iconic ‘I ❤️ New York’ logo, among many other indelible images: the Mad Men Season 7 posters, the logos and brand identities for New York Magazine, Brooklyn Brewery, Jet Blue, as well as countless magazine covers. One of his lesser-known, but widespread contributions: a stencil font, which was reissued in its modernized form in 2015 . 4. Speaking of reasons to adore New York, consider writing a quick love letter to your favorite bar or restaurant—or read what others have to share, via Guest Collective, a new platform that brings a guest-focused perspective to the current state of the hospitality industry. As the industry continues to evolve in the wake of Covid, so will the site. 5. Last week I hinted at ‘lunch bombs,’ something I’ve been doing with a few close friends lately. The idea: Until you’re able to meet up for a lunch date in person, why not ‘bomb’ them with a surprise delivery from one of their favorite local spots? If you really want to double down and have a little fun with the premise: you can mutually agree on a date and time (and budget) to ‘lunch bomb’ each other with surprise deliveries. Then get on FaceTime or Zoom while you unpack your mystery meals.
