1. Stanley Tucci’s viral Negroni-making video had most of us thirsty for something, if not the famous Italian cocktail. I happen to love a good Negroni, but I actually eschew the standard-issue Campari in favor of Cappelletti (which the writer in me loves to spell out: double p, double l, double t). It’s not as sweet as Campari, and slightly more complex. To really appreciate the flavor on its own, I suggest mixing it with just tonic or club soda. Ok, now I’m really thirsty. 2. So you’ve heard of kabocha (aka Japanese pumpkin), and you’re well-acquainted with butternut squash? Well, these two recently got very acquainted with one another in the pumpkin patch and produced the most adorable little hybrid known as Robin’s Koginut, or simply the koginut squash. I picked up the last few of the winter season recently and fell hard for how flavorful they are simply roasted in halves. 3. I can’t bang my pots and pans loudly enough for Serving New York, a forthcoming e-book featuring over 45 easy-to-make recipes from some of NYC’s most beloved restaurants (with all proceeds to benefit ROAR (Relief Opportunities for All Restaurants) x Robin Hood’s restaurant relief fund). Major applause to author Kristin Tice Studeman for hustling to pull the book together in response to the recent closure of the city’s 26,000-plus restaurants. I miss my favorite restaurants deeply, and this book will at least carry me back into a few of them. 4. Currently cracked open on my nightstand: Oyinkan Braithwaite’s My Sister, the Serial Killer, a delightfully delicious read in its own rite. The plot line is at once wildly disturbing, and hilarious. And the underlying themes of sibling dynamics couldn’t be more realistic. 5. Speaking of delights, actor Leslie Jordan’s Instagram account has become my go-to for a guaranteed still-here-in-isolation laugh, whenever I need one. He’s hardly a secret discovery given his 3.8 million followers, so I have a feeling I probably got lost on the way to the party…sorry guys, I’m new here.
