April 17, 2021 Between a lot of us feeling flu-like vaccine side effects, the latest wave of—sorry to say it in the first sentence—SHITTY news, or simply the fact that it’s been one interminable-seeming week, this weekend calls for some serious rest and self-care. On my own list: a good, long soak in the tub, a Tata Harper face masque, and the final two episodes of the thrilling art heist doc This Is A Robbery—perhaps all at once. As for this week’s mentions, there’s a lot to look at below.

1.Get me to LA this May! One of my favorite museums, The Broad, announced plans to reopen its doors next month with a stellar lineup of single-artist exhibitions that includes: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichenstein, Kara Walker, and Andy Warhol, in addition to an exhibition for these times: Invisible Sun, which takes its name from the painting by featured artist Julia Mehretu, showcases modern artworks that resonate with this unprecedented, volatile, and uncertain moment in time. Also upcoming in Atlanta: Underexposed, featuring over 100 photographs by female photographers who helped shape and evolve the medium throughout its 183-year existence, opens tomorrow at the High Museum of Art. There’s been a lot of focus on Georgia and its newly-implemented voter restriction laws these days. As so many corporations and organizations show their dissent by pulling business out of the state, the show’s celebration of often-overlooked, silenced figures, could be regarded as a form of protest in its own rite.

2.Olio e Osso, a brand that developed a cult following for its compact, multi-functional lip and cheek stains, just debuted several new body oils. I’m especially smitten with the Bel Corpo blend, featuring Rose Absolut, Patchouli, Vetiver, and Rose Geranium. I love using it at night, while the Lustero Glow blend is ideal for daytime, with its brighter notes of Bergamot and Litsea. It also has a slight shimmer to give you a refreshed, sun-kissed shine, too (kinda perfect while we wait for sunnier days ahead).

3.One more reason Nashville is sitting high on my #FutureTravel list: The Dive Motel, a refurbished 1956 property showcasing 23 one-of-a-kind rooms. Originally monikered the Key Motel, a spot that hosted Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash (not together!) back in its heyday, the motel’s new owners set the design theme around the idea of motels being a little, well, divey at times—but with a slightly more modern aesthetic. My favorite detail from this tour via Coveteur: “Whichever room you do end up in, you can count on two things: a disco ball and a party switch. ‘The disco balls in every room were made by 'Yo Yo' Yolanda Baker, the oldest disco ball maker in the United States, really the last one, who makes old mirrored glass and aluminum core balls.’" Check me IN.

4.Even with N-95 masks on, these extremely stylish celebrities probably would have looked just as fabulous deboarding their flights. Here’s a visual ode to serious travel style, and the icons behind the looks: The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Prince, Whitney Houston, and modern-day figures such as Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. When it comes to attitude, vernacular, and yes, even fashion, Anthony Bourdain was definitely a style icon in his own irreverent way. His last book, World Travel, finished after his death by his longtime assistant Laurie Woolever won’t exactly satisfy your wanderlust, so much as feed it. But Bourdain never intended for us to experience the world solely via Instagram and television, or even books (those are merely starting points). He wanted us to get off our asses and actually go somewhere. Let this new tome be your guide.

5.Laura Neilson ❤️ Laura Mvula. I’m obsessed with this “church girl,” and her latest performance on the Graham Norton show. That suit! The set design! It’s pop, soul, and very retro in all the right ways.
