Wow, wow, wow. Wow. What a difference a week makes, eh? As the election waiting game went from a nausea-filled dread, to a nail-biting marathon (“He’s taking the leeeeead!”), to something akin to anticipating a child’s birth (a friend’s text finally read, “IT IS HAPPENING!”), I never actually imagined how I’d feel when the results ultimately came through. Where were you all when you heard the news of Biden’s win? How did you feel—and what did you hear (see #2)? Almost everyone I know has likened the feeling to being able to inhale fully again, or having a newfound sense of lightness. New York City’s gorgeous weather certainly added to the elation and outdoor celebrations. Now, the real work begins.

I’ve been meaning to show some support for the suffering hotel industry, and take a mini staycation for myself, and Election Day seemed as good a time as any. I had already resolved well before November 3rd NOT to glue myself to the tv, and instead prioritize mental health over spiking stress levels, especially as quaaludes were proving more difficult to procure than I’d hoped. The Standard High Line, with its epic views across the Hudson River (I imagined New Jersey was Canada), was an ideal distraction for the night. A friend joined me for martinis and shrimp cocktail at the Standard Grill, prior to heading back upstairs for a long, lazy soak in the tub and some good ol’ hippie-dippy journaling before lights out.

For anyone who needs a slight change of scenery, I definitely encourage the idea of even a one-night stay in a local hotel. There’s a ton of great deals currently on apps like Hotel Tonight, or just call up your favorite hotel and see what they might be able to offer.

The news of Biden’s win spread throughout my neighborhood like a cacophonous parade. There were claps and yelps, car horns and cow bells, and something that even sounded like a cannon explosion. 😳 But Saturday wasn’t the first time that loud, often collective sounds heard through our windows marked era-defining moments of this past year, as chronicled by The Cut.

Given everyone’s shot nerves this year, I can’t think of a better product than minimal-effort, pre-rolled joints (CBD or other). The new Cali-brand Dad Grass makes Hemp CBD rolls in various quantities that come stashed in great-looking retro packaging, while CA residents can pick up Besito’s mini cannabis joints, available in three different strains for whatever you’re vibing.

I may or may not have partaken in the above, but I did eat a lot of brownies, thanks to stress-eating and a slew of ripe avocados. At first I sprung for this recipe because of its ease, but the results are actually delicious (and as much as I hate the word: moist). And vegan, too.

Given the confinement to our homes these past few months, the idea of where and how we live has taken on an entirely new significance. New Yorkers who typically regard their favorite restaurants as “homes away from home,” may appreciate this Noho apartment renovation inspired by the owner’s most beloved bars and eateries. Talk about the ultimate two-in-one. I’m especially smitten by all the great curves and the copper-heavy bathroom (check out that tile grout!).
