I've been very into face-off questions lately. So. Would you rather have dinner with one person (your choice), at your favorite restaurant, or have a home-cooked meal with anyone and everyone you could invite, regardless of their locale (leave that part to magic), except that you have to cook it?
Some of my favorite, most memorable and revealing moments with friends have occurred during meals at restaurants that last hours and hours, where our only distraction from the meal and each other is deciding which dessert to share. And yet, there's something so heartwarming about the conviviality of a full dinner table, with plates and dishes being passed around, stories and jokes reaching an almost performative level, and the rich-sounding waves of all those voices.
